Sports bodies fume over exclusion of Fencing, Cycling and Hockey

Three Sports Bodies of the state expressed grave concern over the exclusion of Fencing, Cycling and Hockey in the Three-Day Seminar for Development of Sports in NE India conducted in Imphal.
Addressing reporters in a press meet held at the office of Hockey Manipur, President of Manipur Fencing Association, Th Joykumar said that Fencing is a suitable sports of the state.
Manipur has been producing many international fencers.
It also played an important role in winning medals in the last National Games.
But it is unfortunate to sideline fencing in the seminar.
Secretary, Hockey Manipour, Th Manihar said that Manipur has so far produced 21 women and 17 men hockey players including two Arjuna Awardee.
Moreover, the state has also produced many Olympians in Hockey.
However, the outlook of DYAS and MOA towards the event has raised suspicion of a better future of Hockey in the state.
Secretary, Manipur Cycling Association, Bikram said that Manipur so far has been winning many medals in cycling in the National Games since the first edition.
Besides, cyclists Rameshwari and Helena got the highest amount in the NEC's cash incentives among other players.
He also questioned the reason behind the exclusion of Cycling, Wrestling, Aquatic, Fencing and Hockey from the seminar.
