Imphal, June 16 2021:
Representatives from eight state sports bodies on Wednesday called a press conference and urged Youth Affairs & Sports, Manipur to review its proposal that excluded some main sporting disciplines from the list for Khelo India Centres (KICs) to be established across 16 districts in the state.
During the press conference, the general secretary of Manipur, on behalf of other sports bodies, expressed disappointment over the exclusion of archery, athletics, hockey, shooting, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling in the YAS's list for the KICs.
He pointed out that sporting disciplines such as hockey and weightlifting which have produced many state Olympians and others which can create good future opportunities for youngsters in the state should be part of the Khelo India scheme.
He then urged the YAS to review its current proposal, consult sports bodies and send a fresh proposal to the authority concerned of Khelo India.
