ESU, YPHU off to winning starts in Veteran T-20 Cricket Tourney

Imphal, February 09 2025: ESU, Wangkhei and YPHU, Lalambung kicked off their league campaign in the 12th Manipur Veteran T-20 Cricket Tournament on winning notes at Langthabal Public Ground today.

In the Group C opening match, YPHU thumped YUCC, Kwakeithel Moirangpurel by 72 runs thanks to Ponil's all round performance.

YPHU were able to gather 180 runs for 9 wickets after electing to bat first thanks to Alai's unbeaten 54 and contributions from Jinta 28, Hemanta 21, and Ponil 19 .

Ponil (2/31) and Gyanranjan (2/9) then led the YPHU bowling attack to bowl out YUCC for 108 runs within 17.1 overs.

For YUCC, Khalique (2/28), Noushad (2/34) and Nishi (2/30) shared 6 wickets earlier in the first innings.

Later in the Group B opening match, ESU chased down a target of 155 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs after restricting UCC to 154 runs/7 .

Trimalchandra 28, A Ramesh 27 and Khaba 22 led the batting charge for UCC after they elected to bat first before Rajesh K 40 not out, Swami 35 and Robin led ESU to 155 in reply. For ESU, Premananda picked two wickets (2/25) as four others picked a wicket apiece.

For UCC, Ramesh, Priyo and Jugal picked a wicket apiece.
