Group Centre, CRPF, Langjing will organise the 7th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Running Football tournament at Khuman Lampak main stadium from March 23 till March 31 .
In a statement, the DIGP of Group Centre, CRPF said that the football tournament is being held to commemorate the sacrifice of late Manoranjan Singh, Assistant Commandant, who laid down his life battling Naxalites in Chattisgarh in the year 2009 .
Born to late Budhachandra Singh and Ng (ongbi) Memcha Devi, Manoranjan joined the CRPF as an Assistant Commandant in 2007 and laid down his life fighting Naxalites while being posted at 201 Cobra Battalion at Chattisgarh.
The tournament is aimed at developing football in the North East and is a talent search as well as to motivate the youth of the North East to join the elite para military forces of the country.
The endeavour will go a long way in promoting sports and opening new career opportunities for the youth of the region, added the statement.
The tournament is also being organised to pay tributes to the sacrifice of the gallant officer and to infuse the spirit of gallantry and patriotism in the youth of Manipur, said the statement.
Sixteen teams from the among the local clubs will be short listed and the tournament will be held on knock out basis and all clubs have been invited to participate in the scheduled football tournament.
The All Manipur Football Association has agreed to extend help by encouraging the local clubs to participate and the last date of submitting entry fee forms is March 15.The champions will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh while the runners up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 75,000 .
The participation fee is Rs 2000.
