Wangoi FC, Raghu FC, OFA, Shamphabi canter into TKWA Trophy quarterfinals

Wangoi FC, Wangoi and Raghu FC, Tentha held their nerves to beat their opponents in kicks from penalty mark to move into the quarterfinals of the ongoing TKWA Trophy organized by Tentha Khongbal Welfare Association at Tentha Khongbal Multiplex Ground today.
The 5th pre-quarter final match of the tournament was dragged to penalty shootout after the first half lead of Wangoi FC in the 14th minute through Suresh was equalised in the second half by KYC Tentha through Th Thomas in the 44th minute.
For Wangoi FC, all the five players namely Moirang, Yami, Angousana, Dinesh and Bipin successfully pumped in their penalty shots inside the net but one player of KYC namely Ngongpok failed to convert the penalty shootout into goal paving way for Wangoi FC to book a quarterfinal place in the tournament with 6-5 goals margin.
In a similar way, the 6th pre-quarter final match was also decided in the kicks from penalty mark.
Earlier, Sushilkumar gave the early lead for Raghu FC in the 17th minute but Tondonba of A2A Patsoi scored the equalizer in the 33rd minute to push the match in the penalty shootout.
Five of six players who took the penalty kick found the back of the net for Raghu FC but for A2A Patsoi, two players failed to sent in the ball inside the net and conceded defeat in the thriller with 5-6 goals margin.
With this win, Raghu FC rolled into the quarterfinal convincingly.
Meanwhile, in yesterday's 3rd and 4th pre-quarterfinal matches, OFA Pungdongbam also outplayed Surma FC in the penalty shootout to sail into the quarter-final with 6-5 goals margin while Shamphabi FC, Sapam blanked Lanchenbi FC, Taobungkhok 2-0 in another pre-quarfinal match.
OFA, Pungdongbam booked the opening goal in the 18th minute through Biju and were in 1-0 lead at the end of the first half but after the changeover, Surma FC equalised the goal through Johnson in the 43rd minute to level the score at 1-1 at the end of the normal time.
In the penalty shootout, OFA, Pungdongbam proved stronger team than Surma FC to book a berth at the last 8 of the tournament.
In the other 4th pre-quarterfinal match, both the team Shamphabi, Sapam and Lanchenbi, Taobungkhok were playing on equal level till the end of the goalless first half.
However, Shamphabi turned the things around after the break and sent in two successive goals in the 29th and 34th minute through Premjit and Suraj respectively to finish the match with a convincing 2-0 win.
The seventh pre-quarterfinal match will be played between WFC Moirangkhom and G-5 Heirok tomorrow at 2 pm while MYDO, Mairenkhun will square off with WADA Kumbi in the last pre-quarterfinal match at 3 pm at the same ground.
