Hmar Martyrs' trophy begins

Imphal, April 05 2017: The twenty seventh edition of the Hmar Martyr's Trophy kicked off today amidst razzmatazz at Saikot play ground today.

In the opening match, Neihsial Veng FC edged past Zawlbuk FC by a narrow margin of two goals to one.

The opening ceremony held at 1.30 in the afternoon was attended by Thangjang Haokip, President, Kuki Inpi Churachandpur; B Dongzalian, Chairman, Zomi Council; Joseph Lalrothang, President, Hmar Inpui and several civil society leaders from the Hmar community.

Renowned local artistes and from the neighbouring state of Mizoram also enthralled the crowd during the event held amidst harsh weather.

Forty-three teams will vie for the top honour during the 45-day long sporting event.

The champs will be crowned on the annual Hmar Martyrs' Day that falls on May 16 .
