Imphal, March 02 2012: On the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of late Maj Bob Khathing, 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) organised Late Major Bob Khathing Memorial Football Championship 2012 at TNL ground in Ukhrul Town from Feb 28 to March 2, an IGAR (S) release said.

A total of 9 Football clubs/teams from different parts of Ukhrul district participated with great enthusiasm.

The tournament kick started on February 28 amid much fanfare.

HQ 10 Sect AR in loving memory and honour of late Maj Bob Khathing had invited John SR Khathing, s/o late Maj Bob Khathing as the chief Guest and Ram Muivah, IAS Principal Secretary, PWD and construction works, Govt of Manipur as Guest of Honour on March 1 for unveiling of trophy, along with district officials viz Kabib K, SP Ukhrul, it said.

The competition saw some superb sporting talents with Ukhrul Football Club (UFC) defeating team Winotang Ukhrul by 1-0 .

The event involved speeches by Commander, 10 Sector AR, John Khathing and Ram Muivah, IAS, it stated.
