RGGM Group Stage concludes with upsets and surprises

CCPUR, June 02 2018: Headquarter SC overcame one of the hardest tasks they have ever faced as they blanked United Chikim Federation 3-0 to enter knock-out round as the thrilling group stage of the ongoing Raja Goukhothang Guite Football Memoriam 2018 was drawn into conclusion this afternoon at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur.

In today's final group match, Headquarter SC were needing a win with at least two goals to make a cut into the pre-quarter finals and their hopes of clinching an unlikely victory with required scoreline against a United Chikim Federation, who thrashed ABC Saidan 4-1 earlier, was boosted when promising star Bedashore (8) opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

With the prolific striker completing his hattrick in the second-half with strikes in the 60th and 76th minute, Headquarter SC clinched a memorable 3-0 victory to enter knock-out round and much to their delight, they leapfrogged United Chikim Federation to become the group winners.

Headquarter SC will face Anpak FC in the pre-quarter finals while United Chikim Federation will face pacesetters Bungmual YC in the knock-out round.

The group stage of this prestigious tournament withnessed lots of surprise results and breakthrough.

The most significant breakthrough was Anpak FC's march into the knock-out round from a group comprising of teams fielding ISL players.

Having defied all odds to reach the knock-out round, the achievement of Anpak FC is something which deserve wide notification and recognition as they set exemplary approach to the game of football.

Meanwhile, early elimination of Konsham FC, whose squad comprise mainly of players from the fame Indian Super League and I-League, emerged the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

The high-voltage match between group F rivals Muvanlai Athletics and Zenhang Lamka YC has surpassed the rest as the most exciting match and the same match recorded highest attendance so far in the tournament.

Bungmual YC, New Lamka YC, Lamka SC and FC Zomi Colony are the three clubs to have finished group stage with perfect winning records while Tuiring Youth Organization registered the biggest victory a team has in this tournament, thanks to their incredible 14-0 victory over Angel's Place FC.

FC Zotal are the only side to have booked a place into the next round without scoring a single goal.

With the thrilling group stage winding up in dramatic fashion and the organisers of the tournament paying extra efforts to ensure smooth playfield, we are heading towards an exciting knockout round scheduled tocommence from June 4, 2018 .
