Imphal East, Imphal West pugilists bag top honours

Imphal, June 01 2014:
Pugilists of Imphal East and Imphal West districts respectively wrested the women's and men's team titles of the State Level Boxing Championships which concluded today at Khuman Lampak Boxing Stadium.
The championships organised by Manipur Amateur Boxing Association featured competitions in sub-junior, junior and senior categories for both boys/men and girls/women with a total of 276 pugilists including 99 females participating in it.
Besides, Imphal East and West districts, boxers from Bishnupur, thoubal, Churachandpur and Senapati districts as well as academies/institutions like National Sports Academy, Manipur Police sports Club and mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation also vied for the top honours.
While Imphal West bagged the overall team title in men's category with a tally of 141 points, Imphal East claimed the women's crown with 97 points in its kitty.
Along with the championship trophies presented to the winners, prizes were also given to best boxer and best loser title winners.
The closing ceremony was held with Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar and Manipur Olympic Association president Bijoy Koijam as the chief guest and functional president respectively while District & Sessions Judge (Thoubal) S Imocha Singh, Director (Prosecution) Ng Tejkumar Singh, former Director (Health Services) Dr Y Yaima Singh and former Director (Health Services) were the guests of honour.
