International players felicitated at Robert TA Football Tournament

Senapati, February 08 2025: The much-anticipated 4th edition of the (Late) Lieut Col Robert TA Football Tournament, which commenced on February 4, 2025, in Senapati district, saw 10 matches keenly contested thus far.

Over the years, the tournament has witnessed significant growth in both stature and popularity, as evidenced by the participation of foreign players in this edition.

Local football enthusiasts were thrilled to witness the exceptional skills of James, Mandy, and Patrik from Ghana, whose presence adds a dynamic international dimension to this prestigious competition.

In view of their enthusiasm to participate in the tournament, the Assam Rifles, the annual organisers of the memorial tournament, acknowledged their spirit of participation and presented them with a tournament memorabilia.

Over the years, Robert Cup has seen a surge in popularity and participation which is held in the memory of Lieut Col Robert who is the first Army officer from Maram's Naga community.

The officer made supreme sacrifice when his patrol came under a massive avalanche in North Sikkim in May, 2020.After his death, his wife P Chingpai is the force behind the annual event to keep his legacy alive.
