Maj Bob Khathing Football Tournament kicks off on Jan 10 in Senapati

The Maj Bob Khathing Football Tournament 2024-25 is scheduled to start from January 10 at Astro Turf Ground, Senapati.
The event is organised by the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army in association with Senapati District Olympic Association (SDOAM).
It may be noted that Maj Bob Khathing, also known as Ralengnao Khathing, was a highly decorated Indian soldier, civil servant, and diplomat.
Born on February 28, 1912, in Ukhrul, he was the first person of tribal origin to serve as an Ambassador for India.
Khathing's impressive career spanned multiple fields.
He was a commissioned officer in the British Indian Army during World War II, where he received the Military Cross and Member of the British Empire awards for his bravery and service.
After India gained independence, he joined the Indian government and played a crucial role in integrating Tawang into India in 1951 .

He also played a key role in the establishment of the Sashas -tra Seema Bal, Nagaland Armed Police, and the Naga Regiment.
Khathing also served as the first tribal Indian Ambassador to Burma from 1972 to 1975 .
Throughout his life, Khathing received numerous awards and honours, including the Padma Shri in 1957.He passed away on January 12, 1990, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable service to India.
18 football clubs have confirmed their participation in the upcoming tournament, which will be played on a knockout format starting January 10 .
The teams are divided into two groups: Group A includes Zalengam FC, David Memorial Team, Senapati FA, 27 United FC, Kamlesh FC, South Changoubung Youth Club, Ratna FC, and Leivons FC.
Group B features Gorkha Christian FC, Senapati FC, Asufii FA (B), Sadar Hills FA, Hills Academy FC, Gorkha FA, Sakol FC, and Football 4 Change.
The quarterfinals will take place on January 13, the semifinals on January 14, and the final on January 15.The winners will get a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while the runners up will receive Rs.50,000 .
Individual prizes include Golden Booth, Golden Glove and Best player.
