Rich tributes paid to Hockey Manipur's founder president N Momon

Hockey Manipur, veteran hockey players and sports lovers today joined hands in paying tributes to Ningthoujam Momon Devi, founder president of Hockey Manipur, who passed away recently on July 12 at his residence at Thangmeiband HijamLeikai.
Momon Devi was 88 when she passed away.
The commemorative event was organised by Hockey Manipur today at its office at Khuman Lampak this morning where distinguished Sports personalities including Soram Lokeshwar Singh, first hockey Olympian from Manipur- Panganbam Nilkamal and others led in paying floral tributes to the photo of late veteran athlete N Momon Devi.
Momon Devi, who became the first president of Hockey Manipur which was formed by merging Manipur Hockey Association and Manipur Women's Hockey Association, was bom to Dr Ninthoujam Leiren and Ningthoujam Ongbi Ibemhal in 1934 at Khwai Nagamapal.
N Momon Devi was a rare personality who was good at her educational and-sporting career from a young age.
Momon represented Imphal Sporting Club in athletic events in the Manipur Olympic Games held in 1948 and was also a promising badminton player before she started her Hockey stint in 1951 .
After representing Manipur in various National competitions, Momon also participated in various veteran athletic events held in India and abroad and brought laurels to the country and the State.
Besides playing a key role in developing Hockey in Manipur, she also held the post of vice president of All India Women's Hockey Association and was a jury member in the 5th National Games which was hosted by Manipur in Imphal.
Apart from her role in various sporting associations, N Momon also held the post of secretary of Mahila Kalyan Samiti.
She was also a member of the Manipur State Social Welfare Advisory Board who devoted her life towards welfare of the deprived sections of the society.
Her contributions in the field of sports and others were fondly recalled at the event.
