MSL: AFC steamroll NACO to top Group B as UKB cruise

Imphal, January 07 2022: AFC (Thoubal Athokpam) and UKB (Churachandpur) triumphed in contrasting styles in the Thursday's action of the 14th Manipur State League.

UKB notched up a 5-1 win over YPHU (Lalambung Makhong) in their group B encounter.

The Churachandpur side moved ahead of their opponents when Manglienboi made his effort count in the 25th minute.

UKB then needed just four minutes to go 2-0 up after Lamthianlal dodged his way through YPHU's defence before he drilled home their second goal in the 29th minute.

YPHU put up a spirited fight to halve the deficit in the 35th minute through M Leishemba.

In the ensuing battle, UKB clung on to their slender lead to secure all three points.

AFC, meanwhile, were too strong for NACO (Nambul Mapal) to handle as the Thoubal Athokpam squad strolled to a 6-0 victory over the Nambul team.

With the result, AFC have moved up to the top of Group B with 15 points from six games.

They are two points ahead of second-placed UKB.

AFC scored three goals in the first half with a double from Sahidur Rahaman (6th, 29th) and W Tejkumar (33th).In the second period, Loy-angamba netted their fourth goal in the 51st minute before N Suraj Singh struck twice (65th, 68th) to help AFC close out the match in style.

On Sunday, KIYC will take on TRAU FC while MPSC lock horns With NISA.
