Imphal, August 27 2022: Imphal East and Thoubal triumphed in their semifinal matches to set up title clash of the men's polo tournament in the Manipur Olympic Games 2022.Imphal East earned an easy passage to the final with a 10-2 hammering of Kakching in the first semifinal on Saturday.

L Atangba made the most of the rout by racking up four goals.

The Imphal East riders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first chukker with strikes from Th Ranjit and L Atangba before they produced a four-goal barrage in the second chukker as Atangba scored a pair of goals coupled with one goal each from Th Jacob and Th Kaoba.

In the third chukker, Imphal East's momentum dwindled to one goal through H Abung Khuman while Kakching managed to reduce the arrears with a double from Kh Sushilo.

Imphal East came back strongly in the fourth chukker with one goal each from Atangba (his fourth), Abung Khuman and Kaoba to close out the contest on a rousing note.

On the other hand, Thoubal scraped past Imphal West 7-6 on their way to the final.

P Ojit grabbed a treble and M Doren scored a double as S Sadananda and M Kuner chipped in with one goal each to help their team prevail in the second semifinal match.

For Imphal West, L Rohit and L Thomson scored two goals apiece and Dollar Soram and S Binol got one goal each.

The men's final match will take place on August 29 .
