East to meet West in women's football final

Imphal, August 27 2022: Imphal East and Imphal West will battle it out for the women's football title in the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022 after their semifinal triumphs at SAI Ground, Takyel, on Saturday.

In the first semifinal match, Imphal West overcame Bishnupur in a penalty shootout after the squads tied 3-3 after regulation time.

Ksh Naocha gave Imphal West the upper hand early when she found the back of the net just two minutes into the game before N Nandeshwori restored parity for Bishnupur in the 8th minute.

Bishnupur then turned things around when Th Sanjita Devi scored in the 44th minute.

But their 2-1 turnaround was short lived as Imphal West fought their way back into contention with a 54th-minute equaliser from Ch Binomala.

Then the lead changed hands again as Bishnupur went all out to move ahead in the 56th minute with A Roja Devi on target only to be cancelled again by Ch Bimola who scored her second goal in the 63rd minute.

Thereafter, neither side were able to break the deadlock resulting in the penalty shootout.

Imphal West held their nerves to seal a thrilling 5-4 win courtesy of penalty conversions by Ng Sweety, L Menaka, Sh Banti, M Sanjana and N Linthoinganbi.
