Imphal, December 22 2021:
Manipuri Pony & Polo Players Welfare Association (MP&PPWA) has hailed the state government for donating 30 acres of land to Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association (MHRPA) at Lamphelpat to develop a world class Polo field and grazing ground for pony in the surrounding area.
Stating that the government's gesture is highly valued as Polo sport is in precarious situation in the state with diminishing number of grounds, MP&PPWA general secretary T Geetchandra Mangang noted in a release that this initiative of the government will somewhat ease the problem of lack of ground for playing Polo as well as grazing area.
The Association will also extend all help it can to MHRPA in steps taken by it for propagation of Polo, the release added.
MP&PPWA also pointed out that as the wetlands and open grounds are disappearing, ponies are venturing out in the roads in search of food.
It then appealed to the government to strictly enforce the Manipuri Pony Conservation & Development Policy, 2016 which had been enacted for conservation of Manipuri pony and promotion of Polo.
