Wushu Championship Season II wraps up

The Wushu Championship 2024 Season II, organised by Indian Army, concluded on Wednesday at Kha-Potshangbam, Bishnupur.
During the closing ceremony, GOC Red Shield Division Maj General SS Kartikeya, commander Senapati Brigade, Bishnupur District Wushu Association president, All Manipur Wushu Association vice-president, and other officers from the Army shared the dais.
The five-day competition drew 180 athletes, including 105 males and 75 females.
During the tournament, 120 matches were held across sub-junior, junior and senior categories.
In the senior women's 84kg category, Chaoba clinched the gold medal, Mayan claimed the silver and Mariyam took the bronze.
In the senior boys' 65kg category, Arnolder won the gold, Heisnam Thomash earned the silver and Laishram Maniamtum bagged the bronze.
In the junior boys' 52kg category, Robinson secured the gold, Kh Jetish claimed the silver and Denish got the bronze.
In his speech, Major General SS Kartikeya acknowledged the increasing recognition of India in sports on the international stage, attributing it to the athletes from Manipur who have represented the country.
He noted that no other state in India has produced as many talents in sports, dance, and martial arts as Manipur.
Kartikeya also announced that the next edition of the tournament would be larger, offering prize money and will be renamed the Manipur Wushu Championship.
Certificates and prizes were awarded to the top three finishers, and there was a demonstration of Thang-Ta and Toulu (wushu art) at the closing event.
