Imphal, August 28 2022: Churachandpur defeated Imphal West in a penalty shootout to set up final clash with Imphal East in the men's football tournament of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022 .

In the first semifinal, Imphal East were too strong for Kakching to handle as the East side strolled to a 5-0 victory.

P Can Meetei dazzled in the first half with a double.

He opened the floodgates with a 22nd-minute strike and went on to put his team 2-0 up in the 36th minute before Thangabar tripled their lead in the third minute of first-half injury time.

Then Md Sohail further stretched their advantage to 4-0 in the 51st minute before Thangabar netted his second goal in the 57th minute for the eventual 5-0 result.

Churachandpur, meanwhile, capitalised on penalty kicks to beat Imphal West en route to the final.

The match went into the penalty shootout after the two sides remained goalless at the end of regulation time.

In the shootout, C Pauginmang, Peter and Lalminlian converted their shots to help Churachandpur seal 3-2 triumph against Imphal West, who could only manage two goals courtesy of Rk Chiranjan and B Romen in the penalty contest.
