SU, NEROCA enjoy stroll in State League

Imphal, August 22 2022: Sagolband United and NEROCA FC both scored an identical 4-1 win over their respective opponents in the 15th Manipur State League 2022 at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong, on Monday.

Sagolband United made light work of Athletics Football Club courtesy of strikes from Ronik Moirangthem, Chingakham Anandkunlar, Singam Subash and Thokchom Adision.

The Sagolband squad dominated possession from the first whistle but they took 32 minutes to break their opponents' resistance.

It was Ronik who registered the first shot on target to give his side a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

Sagolband made further inroads when Anandkumar found the back of the net in the 55th minute before Sahidur Rahaman halved the deficit in the 63rd minute for AFC.

After conceding a goal, Sagolband fought back strongly as Subash put his side 3-1 up in the 75th minute and then Adison put the game beyond doubt after slotting home their fourth goal in the 86th minute.

Later in the day, NEROCA FC shrugged off an early deficit to run out 4-1 winners against NISA.

NISA moved ahead just eight minutes into the game courtesy of a penalty conversion by Huidrom Telheiba.

NEROCA fought hard and managed to find their breakthrough just before the break when Ayekpam Tomjoseph broke through NISA's defence and struck in the leveller in first-half injury time.

After their equaliser, NEROCA grew in confidence and went on the offensive and claimed their second goal in the 59th minute via a penalty kick by Manglenthang Lupheng.

The orange brigade showed their dominance with a 65th-minute goal from Md Isra Khan and they were beyond the reach of NISA after S Johny Kom found their fourth goal in the 85th minute.
