Manipur beaten by Tripura, Mizoram notch up second straight victory

Manipur suffered a 2-0 defeat to Tripura in their north-east zone qualifying match of the Santosh Trophy on Tuesday while Mizoram registered their second straight victory by beating Nagaland 1-0.Tripura toiled for the major part of the first half to steal a march on the home side with Manajit Singha Barua finding the back of the net three minutes before the halftime whistle.
After the restart, both sides continued to engage in a tight tussle for almost the entire second half until Bikash Tripura capitalised on a space to drill home Tripura's second goal in the final seconds of stoppage time, dashing Mani-pur's hopes of securing their second win.
Mizoram, meanwhile, continued their winning run after eking out a 1-0 success against Nagaland in the day's second match.
Mizoram were rewarded for their first-half goal which came through Lalnuntluanga Bawitlung, who netted the important goal in the 44th minute.
It was Nagaland's second straight loss after they were beaten by Manipur in the opening match of the northeast zone qualifiers.
