State Games: Imphal East eves lift polo trophy

Imphal, August 28 2022: M Priya scored four goals to steer Imphal East to a dominant 7-3 win over Imphal West in the women's polo final of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games on Sunday.

In a keenly contested first chukker, the Imphal East riders managed to edge ahead after Th Tanna Devi made her effort count in the 4.50th minute.

After their cautious start, Imphal East's attacking prowess was on full display in the second chukker as they rained goals on their West opponents.

M Priya set the tone for the second-period barrage with a 1.40th minute goal as Th Tanna found her second goal to make it 3-0 in the 2.50th minute and Kh Kabe upped the ante with a 5th-minute strike before Priya collected a pair of goals (5.21', 6.30') to ensure her side went into the fourth chukker with a commanding 6-1 lead.

Priya then rounded off the scoring after claiming her fourth goal in the 2.20th minute and put Imphal East beyond on the reach of Imphal West, who staged a late surge in vain with goals from T Sangeeta (4.20'), Victoria Oinam (6.15') and Neelu Rk (6.50') .
