Superplate Tournament kicks off as Mehul's all-round show powers ESU to huge victory

Chongtham Mehul Shreth's heroics with bat and ball helped ESU (Wangkhei Palace Compound) start their campaign in emphatic fashion as they thrashed UCC (Uripok) by 127 runs in the opening match of the 2nd MNCA Superplate Tournament 2022-23 on Sunday at Kongba Khunou Dhobi Lampak, Imphal East.
Asked to bat first, ESU piled up a total of 276/9 in their 40 overs.
Chongtham Mehul Shreth, who opened the innings, dished out a blistering 88 off 65 balls.
His knock included 12 fours and two sixes.
Among the other key contributors in the ESU innings were Thokchom Nishikanta (49 not out), M Bimananda (41), Sanatomba (28) and Hanjabam Naoba Sharma (21).Three of ESU's wickets fell prey to Asar Hussain, two each to Leishangthem Bo-shorjit and Konsam Gulson, and one to Roshan Das.
ESU then needed 29 overs to wipe out UCC's batting lineup for their resounding victory in their campaign opener.
Not only did Mehul Shreth shine with the willow, but he also made his mark with the ball by taking five wickets as Chitaranjan Sharma accounted for three scalps and M Papathoi chipped in with one.
In their run chase, Roshan Das (27), Thangjam Anson (26), Bicky Kumar Das (23), Nongmeirakpam Komol (12) and Elangbam Paris (10) got into double figures for UCC.
Chongtham Mehul Shreth deservedly earned the man of the match title for his all-round show.
