Imphal, October 16 2015 : Manipur's Khumukcham Nungsiton Chanu who bagged a gold medal each in the Junior and Youth (57kg) categories in the 2015 Commonwealth Youth, Junior & Senior weightlifting championships held at Pune recently was accorded a rousing reception on her arrival in Imphal on Friday.

Khumukcham Nungsiton who represented India in both the Youth and Junior categories is the the daughter of Kh Oken and Kh (O) Ibemma of Nongpok Kakching Makha Leikai.

Born on March 1, 1998, Nungsiton began her carries by winning two bronze medals at the 14th Sub_Junior State Level Weightlifting Championship in 2009.

At the 24th Women Junior National Weightlifting Championship in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh in 2011, she bagged two more bronze medals.

Nungsiton's international career began when she won the 4th position at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Yangon, Myanmar in 2012 .

After winning various medals in other championships, she won three gold medals and three bronze medals at the 10th National Youth (Boys & Girls) Weightlifting Championship in Haryana in 2015 .
