16 elite boxers advance to 2nd Governor's Cup finals

Imphal, November 11 2024:
As many as 16 boxers secured gold-medal bouts in the men's and women's elite competition at the 2nd Governor's Cup Boxing Championships 2024 on Monday.
In the men's event, Laishram Edipak (51kg), Jackson Pukhrambam (54kg), Thangjamcha Lakshmani (60kg), Ningthoujam Puskar (60kg), Pheiroijam Meibrajit Meitei (63.5kg), Keisham Johnson (67kg), Ningthoujam Khambaton (67kg), Ningthoujam Jackson (71kg) and Leimapokpam Rahul (92kg) triumphed in their respective semifinal matches.
Meanwhile, Meinam K Renish (54kg) and Etash Khan (63.5kg) both received a walkover to advance to the men's finals.
The women's event saw Venika Yumnam Chanu (48kg), Huidrom Karuna (48kg), Maibam Rosemary Chanu (50kg), Toijam Bhumabati Chanu (50kg) and Ningthoujam Manda Chanu (52kg) enter finals of their respective weight divisions following their semifinal victories.
Meanwhile, nine final matches in the school-age group were decided on Monday, with Ningthoukhongjam Robash Meitei (35kg), Fajaba Naorem (40kg), Shagolsem Manimatum (43kg), Gurumayum Maiken (46kg), Moibungkhongbam Lanchenba (49kg), Gershom Awungshi (52kg), Nelson Khwairakpam (55kg), Khundom Lanchenba Meetei (58kg) and Sandham Victor (61kg) all earning the gold medals.
