Sepak takraw introduced in Chandel

Kakching, April 08 2024: District Sports Association (DSA), Chandel on Monday organised 'Introducing and Launching Programme of Sepak Takraw in Chandel district at Heibunglok multipurpose hall, Chandel district.

The programme was attended by Chandel deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar as chief guest, while DSA president Ts Chamna Anal, vice president HL Livingson Anal, Heibunglok village chief Ts Warnu Monsang and Manipur University Sports Department section officer (SO) Haobam Jadavchandra were present as members on the dais.

The event began with a blessing ceremony by Heibunglok Baptist Church pastor W Molali after which DC Rajkumar formally announced introduction of sepak takraw in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Ts Chamna Anal informed that as the district denizens are yet to get acquainted with nuances of sepak takraw, the Association decided to introduce the sport in the district after wide consultations with stakeholders concerned.

He also expressed gratitude to SO Jadavchandra for providing the equipment and support for bringing the sport to the district as well as to Chandel DC Rajkumar and Heibunglok Village Au thority for ensuring materialisation of the project.

On the other hand, DC Rajkumar observed that success in sports not only depends on the player but also support from sports associations, clubs and coaches.

If other districts also follow the work done by DSA, Chandel in development of sports then Manipur which is known as powerhouse of sports of India will definitely see increase in the number of competent athletes, he said.

The event was marked by an exhibition match between Chandel Police and Khuringmul Youth Club.
