Imphal, July 30 2024: In a good news for football lovers in the State, Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei is all set to join KLASA, Keinou in the I-League 3 2024-25 .

SSU president Kh Ibopishak made a formal announcement regarding the club's entry into the fourth tier National club league competition during a press conference this afternoon at the club's office at Kakwa.

SSU's vice president L Romen Sharma and former office bearers also attended the press event.

Making the big announcement, the SSU president also sought continuous support from sports lovers in the State to help the club excel in the National competition and qualify for I-League 2 next season.

SSU had an opportunity to feature in the I-League 2 earlier but had to miss the chance due to some unwanted circumstances.

Fortunately, after a lengthy process, the team have finally made it to the list of 25 teams appearing in the upcoming season of I-League 3, he said while also thanking All Manipur Football Association (AMFA)- the apex body of football in the State - for all the procedural and technical support regarding the entry to the league event.

The nomination for entry into I-League 3 came after SSU's performance at Manipur Premier League held this year.

Even though the State level league competition ended with SSU and ASUFII Football Academy as joint winners, the club has been urging the AMFA to recommend them for the I-League 3 on account of better finishing in the league standings, he said.

On being asked about the club's budget, the SSU president also said that the club has a budget of nearly 5 crores prepared for participation in the tournament and the club has fulfilled all the eligibility criteria.

He also maintained that the union will be completing the process of the appointment of coach, assistant coach, and other support staff shortly.

It may be noted that SSU, founded in 1961, is an affiliated member of AMFA and the football team of the union has been a notable force in the region having won many titles State competitions and regional events in its decades long journey.

The union is also known for its success in the field of Hockey, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Handball, Cricket, Kang, Athletics etc.
