62nd CC Meet-2019; TRAU FC edge out NISA 5-3 on penalties to reach quarter finals

Imphal, December 27 2019: Tiddim Road Athletic Union Football Club (TRAU FC) got the better of NISA, Thangmeiband 5-3 on penalties after a goalless draw during regulation to book a place in the quarter finals of the ongoing 62nd Sir Churachand Singh Memorial Football Tournament today at Mapal Kangjeibung.

The clash between the Kwakeithel and the Thangmeiband sides under cold and gloomy weather condition ensued by rain witnessed some rash tacklings in both the halves forcing referee to caution the players with yellow cards.

The rain also caused great inconvenience to spectators who were expecting a great clash from the uncovered stands.

TRAU, which are debuting I League this season, could not live upto its expectation as they failed to create spark and bring the excitement to the game except creating few close chances that went wide or went straight to NISA keeper in this goalless match.

NISA defence also helped their team to a great extent by easing the pressure on many occasions as TRAU enjoyed dominance in both possession and attempts.

The keenly contested game also witnessed TRAU miss three on goal chances while NISA's closest chance was when N Momocha went deep but his shot went off target.

As the two sides failed to find the difference during the normal time, the winners were decided via penalty shoot-out wherein Princewill Emeka, Sh Netrajit, Jimmy Singh Maibam , Shahabaaz Khan and S Dinesh did the scoring for TRAU FC to ensure a 5-3 win.

On the other hand, only Okorogor, Lamjingbam Mutum and M Clinton found the net for NISA in the shoot-out.

TRAU FC, Kwakeithel will face (outsider team) Rajbari AC, Guwahati in the last quarter final on December 31 at 1.45 pm .

Laban SC, Shillong will take on KLASA, Keinou in the first quarter final match of the tournament at 1.45 pm .
