SSA claim 5th GK hockey title

Imphal, November 27 2011:
SSA, Charangpat defeated MPSC 4-3 in the final of the 5th G Khelchandra (GK) Men's Open Hockey Tournament at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium today.
The summit clash of the tournament organised by Imphal East District Hockey Association under the sponsorship of GK Memorial Trust, Wangkhei saw the eventual winners rally from an early goal to wrest the top prize of Rs 20,000 .
S Tarunkumar provided the breakthrough for the police side only two minutes into play with his first of two in the match.
The MPSC lead lasted till the 11th minute when H Mani restored parity for the Charangpat side with his first of two goals in the match.
Although SSA took a 2-1 lead from Mani's second goal in the 28th minute Tarunkumar levelled the score nine minutes later as the first half hooter was sounded at 2-2 .
With scores from Ch Nepolian (49th) and M Amarjit (61st) putting SSA at a two goal advantage, P Adeva's 63rd minute strike was not enough to prevent the Charangpat side from wresting the title.
MPSC had to be content with the runners-up spot and Rs 10,000 prize with the best goalkeeper award carrying Rs 1000 going to SSA's M Pritam.
H Mani was declared player of the final match while the tournament's best player honour went to Th Romesh of MPSC.
The prize distribution programme was held with Khurai AC MLA Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, Hockey Manipur vice president Dr Ch Manglem Singh and (Retd) IFS Shadokpam Tomchou Singh as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
