2nd Manipur Olympic Games Handball : Thoubal confirm men's semi-final ticket; Imphal West, Imphal East reach women's semi-finals

Imphal, August 27 2022: Thoubal men's team made it to the semi-final of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Handball hosted at YLK ground, Chingarel Tejpur with two of two group stage victories.

Imphal West and Imphal East women's teams also sealed two of two wins to book their semi-final slots today.

Both the men's and women's tournaments are participated by 6 teams clubbed into two groups.

In the men's Group A opener, Imphal East beat Jiribam 24-7 as Lakpati managed 6 goals alone followed by 3 goals each from A Bikramjit and Y Amarjit.

The team however slumped to a 22-30 loss in the hands of Imphal West later in the day.

2nd Manipur Olympic Games

O Yaiphaba scored 8 goals in this one sided encounter for Imphal West while Kh Ratan Kumar netted 8 goals.

H Sanatomba also contributed 5 goals as A Tondonba, Th Kiranjit and N Dinachandra added two goals apiece.

For Imphal East, Y Amardeep Roy scored 5 goals as Lakpati added 5 goals.

In the men's Group B league matches, Thoubal overwhelmed Bishnupur 27-10 and crushed Chandel 17-2 to seal the semi-final slot. Ksh Lenin (9) and H Ingocha (8) shone for Thoubal in the match against Bishnupur while O Prem netted highest 6 goals in 17-2 win against Chandel.

In the women's Group A league matches, Imphal East thumped Jiribam 11-2 and prevailed 15-5 over Bishnupur to finish Group winners.

Y Monika netted 3 goals in Imphal East's 11-2 win against Jiribam as Ch Luxmi, Dimple M and B Sunitibala added 2 goals apiece.

Ch Luxmi scored the highest 5 goals in 15-5 win over Bishnupur as Dimple M followed suit with 4 goals.

Meanwhile in the Group B league matches, Imphal West trounced Chandel 19-4 thanks to O Shandhyarani (6) and A Bebe (4) heroics before carving out a 10-8 win over Thoubal with the help of N Sunibala's 8 goals and A Bebe's double.

Th Jenila topscored for Thoubal with 4 goals in this match.

Volleyball
In the women's volleyball matches staged today at Heirok Volleyball Court, Senapati beat Imphal West 2-0, Kamjong beat Noney 2-0, Ukhrul beat Bishnupur 2-0 and Kangpokpi beat Tamenglong 2-0 .

In the men's matches, Chandel edged past Tamenglong 2-1 as Thoubal beat Senapati 2-0, Bishnupur beat Churachandpur 2-0 and Imphal East edged past Ukhrul 2-1 .

Netball
In the women's Netball matches, Imphal East trounced Kakching 37-7 and Imphal West secured a 19-15 win over Bishnupur.

In the men's matches, Imphal East overcame Kakching 32-11, Imphal West demolished Bishnupur 37-12 and Tamenglong thumped Kakching 16-6 .

Basketball
The second day of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games Basketball saw Kamjong notching up 59-47 win over Thoubal and Tamenglong eased past Pherzawl 63-47 in slightly one sided matches.

Aquatics (Swimming) : S Athouba wins 50 m butterfly gold
S Athouba of Imphal West won the men's 50 m butterfly gold clocking 29.97 seconds this afternoon.

Finishing second in the competition was Punshiba Meitei of Imphal East 27.85 seconds while Laitonjam Lanchenba bagged bronze with a 29.97 seconds finish.

N Jenson of Imphal East pocketed the men's 200 m breaststroke event gold taking 2 minutes 48.55 seconds as his compatriot Th Kelvinson took the silver with a time of 3 minutes 11.70 seconds.

Ksh Ajesh Singh of Kakching bagged the bronze medal with a 3 minutes 40.88 seconds finish.

Imphal East's team won the women's 4x100 m freestyle relay gold with Dekalu Th Panmei, Yaiphabi Thoudam, Gaitri Thoudam, Panthoi Devi Sagolshem taking 5:15.07 to finish ahead of Imphal West (5:36.65) and another Imphal East team (6:2.32) .
