Wushu worlds' silver medallist Y Sanathoi accorded warm reception

Thoubal, October 26 2019:
Yumnam Sanathoi who won a silver medal for India at the 15th World Wushu Championship held from October 19 to 23 at Shanghai, China; along with coach Dr Moirangthem Ibomcha were accorded a warm welcome upon their arrival at Tikendrajit International Airport today by Amateur Institute of Wushu Manipur and Thoubal district branch.
The duo were also feted in a reception ceremony held latter at Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai leikai community hall.

The reception programme was graced by Manipur Development Council's (MDC) president and social worker, Ayam Meiraba as chief guest; Jeet Kune-do Association Manipur's vice-president, Maibam Ibotombi Khumancha as functional president and Yairipok High School's Headmaster, Keisham Joykumar and All Yairipok United Clubs Organisation's (AYUCO) secretary, L Rajen Meitei as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Sanathoi who is also an Arjuna Awardee, expressed that she was hopeful of winning the gold (women's 52 kg event) medal but settled for the silver as she went down fighting against her Chinese rival in the final.
Sanathoi, however exuded strong confidence that she will perform better for the gold medal in the Asian Championship to be held in Nepal in December this year.
Sanathoi, who is a resident of Yairipok Top-Chingtha, had also won many National and international wushu medals earlier, including a bronze medal at the Asian Games 2014 and was honoured with Arjuna Award in 2015 in recognition of her achievements.
Speakers on the occasion opined that Sanathoi should be given higher order of recognition, considering her contributions towards the State and the Nation.
They also wished Sanathoi a more bright future during the programme.
President and members of Nongpok Ningthou Youth Association (NNYA) Yairipok Top Chingtha also attended the reception programme.
