Eastern India powerlifting championship : State eves emerge champions

Imphal, April 26 2015 : State eves produced an all-win performance to emerge the overall women's team champion in the Eastern India Powerlifting Championship, 2015 held at SAI SAG Hall, Khuman Lampak.

In the final day of the championship, Manipur scored a total of 60 points to clinch the overall women's powerlifting title while Assam bagged the runner's up title by scoring 51 points.

Mizoram came third with 8 points.

The best women's power lifter title went to Lamnganbi Chanu of Manipur.

Assam (60 points) lifted the men's overall team title while Mizoram (48 points) and Manipur (44 points) bagged the second and third position respectively.

Ranjan Mazumdar of Assam clinched the men's best lifter title.

In women's bench press, Manipur secured 60 points to lift the title while Assam (35 points) and Arunachal Pradesh (29 points) took the second and third position.

State lifter Homeswori Devi was awarded the best bench press lifter title.

Assam (57 points) claimed the men's bench press title while Manipur bagged the second position with 57 points.

The third place went to Mizoram with 33 points.

Aman Khan of Manipur was named the best bench press lifter.

The closing function of the championship which was organised by the Manipur Powerlifting Association under the aegis of Indian Powerlifting Federation was attended by Manipur Olympic Association associate vice president and Inspector General of Police S Manglemjao Singh, All Manipur Powerlifting Association advisor and Manipur Olympic Association secretary Sunil Elangbam, Indian Powerlifting vice president Anwar Hussain, Eastern India Powerlifting Association secretary Sampa Guha, all Manipur Powerlifting Association president N Kumar Meitei as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Around 100 power lifters including women from six States of Eastern India � West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, participated in the championship which began from April 24 .
