Imphal East seal overall team title of State Level Boxing Championship

Imphal, February 26 2023: Imphal East amassed highest 58 points to seal the overall team title in the 2nd Master Boys and Girls, 12th Sub-Junior Boys, 11th Sub-Junior Girls, 34th Elite Men and 21st Elite Women's State Level Boxing Championship.

Imphal West finished 1st runners up with 53 points in the championship held at Boxing Arena, Khuman Lampak while Thoubal district finished 2nd runners up with 25 points.

The last day saw Tingneilhing Chongloi of Kangpokpi secure a unanimous 5-0 win over Saikhom Gaitri of Imphal West for the elite women's 66 kg title.

The elite women's 63 kg category title in the meantime went to Bindiya Naorem of Thoubal who sealed a 3-2 split decision victory over Imphal West's Alena Thounaojam.

Earlier in the day, Tingmila Doungel of Kangpokpi notched up the 48 kg category title with a unanimous 5-0 win over Bishnupur's Ngangom Reena.

Bishnupur's Ashalata Huiningshumbam beat Thongam Lanchenbi of IW 4-1 to win the 50 kg category gold as her compatriot Toijam Bhumabati won the 52 kg category gold with a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Imphal East's Bidyapati Nongthombam.

In the 57kg category title clash, Imphal West's Huidrom Ambeshori overwhelmed Laishram Roshni 5-0 before Sovi Jajo of Kamjong beat Thoubal's Surjalata for the 60 kg category gold.

In the lone sub-junior women's final bout (61 kg category), Leimapokpam Sanjana of Imphal West clinched a unanimous 5-0 win over Bishnupur's Thoudam Diana.

Lumjainliu Kamei of Noney (33 kg) and Yengkhom Giveson of Imphal West (40 kg) were adjudged best promising boxers in master girls and boys categories as Toijam Bhumabati Chanu of Bishnupur (52 kg) and Jakshon Pukhrambam of Imphal West were named best boxers in elite women's and men's categories.

Meanwhile Thongram Lanchenbee of Imphal West (50 kg) and Boychard Baite of Kangpokpi (57 kg) bagged the best losers named for elite categories.
