IE District Subroto Mukherjee Football : Afros, Princeton, Poiroukhongjin and Maheirel emerge winners

The Imphal East District Level Inter-School Subroto Mukherjee Football tournament 2019, organised by District Youth Affairs and Sports Office, Imphal East, kicked off at Football Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak which saw participation from 14 (U-14) Boys team, 8 (U-17) Boys team and 2 girls team which will vie for the top prize on the knock-out basis.
The opening function was graced by T Thouba Singh, Asst Director, Youth Affairs & Sports and Y Bonny, District Sports Officer, Imphal East as dignitaries.
On the first day, Afros A Higher Secondary School, Khabeisoi; Princeton Int School, Poiroukhongjin High School and Maheirel Sindam Sang emerged victorious.

The first match of the day saw a competitive battle between Afros A Higher Secondary School and Lode Star Public School for over 40 minutes, however, Afros A Hr Sec School managed to break the defence of the opponent in the concluding minutes of the match and fired three back to back goals within a span of 5 minutes and sealed their first win of the tourney with 3-0 goals.
S Rahul (45'), Y Warish (48') and Sajan Khan (50') were the scorers of the match.
In the second match, Princeton Int School secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Keibi High School.
Though the match started in favour of Keibi side as they found the first goal through Rigan in the 14th minute, Afjal of Princeton Int School equalised the goal in 16th minute while his compatriot L Newton fired the winner in 18th minute.
In the third match, Poiroukhongjin High School too sealed a narrow 1-0 win over Yorbung High School, riding on K Bobosana's goal in the 29th minute.
In the last match, Maheirel Sindam Sang destroyed Azad Higher Secondary School by 5-0, with goals pouring in from N Damboss (25'), L Deepak (28'), Tikendrajit (29'), Srivash (48) .
Aris Khan of Azad Higher Secondary School added misery to his team as he mistakenly scored an own goal in the 35th minute.
All the matches scheduled in the afternoon have been postponed due to unfavourable weather condition and are likely to be played tomorrow morning.
