19th Governor's Cup Fencing commences, Imphal East register 15 medals

The 19th edition of the Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship kicked off today at SAI-NERC Takyel Hall under the aegis of the Manipur Fencing Association.
134 athletes will be competition in 5 different categories in this championship which was opened in the presence of Th Joykumar Singh, ex president-Manipur Fencing Association; M Lokendro, president-Manipur Fencing Association; S Pritamkumar, joint secretary to the Governor of Manipur and A Tombi Sharma, vice president-Manipur Fencing Association as dignitaries.
The opening day of the championship saw Imphal East athletes amass as many as 5 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.
With the medal haul the Imphal East contingent deservingly confirmed the RK Raghumani Singh Memorial Trophy for cadet boys' team champions and Moirangthem Gitarani Memorial Trophy for cadet girls' team champions.
K Abhinash of Imphal East sealed the cadet boys' foil title beating compatriot K Rajiv as Imphal East's K Prithiviraj and Ukhrul's S Vicky bag the bronze medals.
In the cadet boys' sabre competition, Seoul N of Senapati district sealed the gold medal beating L Shaolin of Ukhrul as Bongcha of Ukhrul and H Denil of Senapati picked the bronze medals.
K Ramakanta of Imphal West in the meantime clinched the cadet boys' epee gold beating Sh Jenith of Imphal East in the final.
Imphal East's W Nikash and Imphal West's L Dollar won the bronze medals in this competition.
T Mangal Leibi of Imphal East grabbed the cadet girls' foil gold medal beating L Thoithoi of Senapati in the final today as Ukhrul's M Gitarani and Senapati's H Bita settled for the bronze medals.
Cadet girls' sabre gold medal in the meantime went to P Ambika of Imphal East as she got the better of compatriot Baby Diana in the final.
A Phirolin of Ukhrul and Priya L of Imphal East finished with the bronze medals in this competition.
L Chinglembi also won Imphal East a gold medal by beating compatriot Deviya N in the cadet girls' epee final.
G Keniya of Senapati and M Poireinganbi of Imphal East bagged the bronze medals.
In the mini girls' sabre final, Imphal East's Th Shomika won the gold by beating compatriot Apu L in the final.
Imphal West's Lakhsmi Kh and Imphal East's W Heliya sealed the bronze medals of the competition.
