11th MSL Double Elimination Round NACO overcome TRAU on penalties

Imphal, November 15 2016: NACO, Nambul Mapan avenged their 2-1 defeat against TRAU, Kwakeithel earlier in the league round of the ongoing 11th Manipur State League as they romped a 5-3 victory on penalties over TRAU in the winner bracket match today.

The two teams made positive starts.

NACO took an early lead through Julian Keishing's goal in the 11th minute.

Julian, who was left unmarked by TRAU defenders, swiftly collected a ball that was delivered in TRAU's goal area from the halfway mark by Y Bishan Meitei and lost no time in volleying the ball into the net.

TRAU pushed hard to equalise the goal.

They were rewarded for their efforts as TRAU striker N Sanatomba's header off a curl from Nathaniel Amos Adisa from the left flank was on target.

After the score was levelled, the two sides made frantic raids on each others' territories to find the winner.

NACO strikers made several attempts to take chance on the cracks in TRAU's defence line.

But they could not convert the chances to their advantage.

Although the two teams exhibited a spirited fight, none could make any further breakthrough till the end of the normal time.

Penalty came into play to decide the match winner.

Four of NACO men easily converted the penalty kick while only two of TRAU player could find their target.

TRAU had earlier edged past NACO 2-1 in the league round of the tournament.
