Imphal, September 17 2012: The Youth Adventure Forum Manipur (YAFM) today conducted a river rafting expedition at Imphal River under the title Spirit of Imphal River.

The expedition began from Minuthong and concluded at Laiphrakpam.

In all 53 rafters participated in the expedition.

YAFM organised the expedition in association with Healthy Women's Society, Lalambung under the sponsorship of Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Thingnamcha Steel Industries and www.e-pao.net were the co-sponsors of the expedition.

Expressing serious concern over the large scale pollution of the river by the inhabitants along the river, Nolini Yumnam, who led the expedition said that the irresponsible activities of the people settling along side the major rivers of Manipur has made the Loktak Lake more polluted day by day.

When the whole world is talking about saving the water bodies from such pollutions, people in the state are not doing anything to stop polluting the rivers.

As a result, many people are falling prey to water borne diseases every year in the state, she said while urging the people to keep the water bodies in the state clean and pollution free.

She informed that YAFM will be organising a Winter Trek Expedition to Siroy Peak in January next year.

First women climber of India to conquer Mt Everest, Bachendri Pal had been requested to be part of the expedition.

However it is not confirmed whether she will participate in the expedition.
