FC Lamjao, KPFC advance into second round of 62nd CC Meet

Imphal, December 13 2019: FC Lamjao defeated KIYC, Kshetri Iril Mapal by 4-3 goals on penalties after 1-1 draw while KPFC edged out GSC, Churachandpur by 2-1 goals in today's matches at Mapal Kangjeibung to progress into the second round of the 62nd Sir Churachand Singh KSCI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament.

In the first match of the day, first half goals helped KFPC hold off GSC Churachandpur 2-1 despite late effort by the latter team.

KPFC dominated the earlier proceedings and made of the most of the scoring chances as S Kaphoi banged in the opener in the 23rd minute while S Premchand doubled their advantage two minutes latter.

GSC were unlucky not to score on few occasions in the first half and eventually the Bishnupur district team entered into the break with a 2-0 lead.

After the restart, GSC looked to take control of the game and successfully pulled back a goal in the 51st minute through Ng Bedeenpar but their effort to draw level could not materialise as KPFC slipped to a more defensive form and successfully held on to their lead till the final whistle to book the next round berth.

Meanwhile the afternoon match between KIYC and FC Lamjao was neck to neck competition from the beginning and eventually played out a 1-1 draw during regulation before the Kakching district team had the 4-3 dominance in the shoot-out and sealed the game 5-4.The two sides entered into the break with no goals being scored on either side but KIYC were first to break the deadlock with Ng Jenish Singh finding the target in the 57th minute.

FC Lamjao rallied back and pulled level in the 69th minute with the help of L Kishan before the game became an end to end affair that ended up without any headway for both the teams.

Eventually the game was decided via penalty shoot-out wherein, L Kishan Singh, L Borish, M Somokanta and M Nongdamba found the target to hand FC Lamjao the next round ticket as only Musha Khan, Kh Johen and M Chungmei scored for KIYC in the shoot-out.

YUFC, Ukhrul will take on LYGSEDA, Lonpi in the next match tomorrow at 11.30 am before SWC, Keirak face MA, Kangpokpi latter at 2 pm .
