Manipur sub-jr teams shine as 8th Thang-Ta Federation Cup 2019 gets underway

Imphal, June 13 2019:
Sub-Junior girls and boys teams of Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur kicked off the association's team title campaign in style as they earned a total of 10 gold and 1 silver medal on the opening day of the 8th Thang-Ta Federation Cup 2019 being organised by All Tripura Thang-Ta Association under the aegis of Thang-Ta Federation of India at Swami Viveknanda Sardha Satarbakshi Bhawan, Dharamnagar, North Tripura.
The inaugural function of the event which features a total of 249 male and 133 female players from across 20 State Thang-Ta units was graced by Huidrom Premkumar, president of World Thang-Ta Federation; O Deben Singh, advisor, All Tripura Thang-Ta Association; Bornali Goswami, Chairperson, Tripura Women's Commission and social activist, Jahar Chakraborty as dignitaries.

In the Phunaba Ama events for sub-junior girls, the State team collected 6 gold medals and 1 silver medals.
All Tripura Thang-Ta Association bagged 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze to follow the Manipur team closely.
H Yaiphabi Chanu opened the medal campaign winning gold medal in the -21 kg event while Meghna Wangkheimayum clinched the second gold medal in the -29 kg event.
Jyoti Sunar of Manipur won the gold medal in the -33 kg Phunaba Ama event for sub-junior girls beating Assam's Haki while Sneha Singh of Tripura claimed the bronze medal.
In other final bouts of the day, Th Roshita Devi of Manipur outshone Tamanna of Haryana to claim -37 kg title; Kh Chinglembi Chanu overcame Pratiksha Choudhury of Tripura to fetch the -49 kg category gold and N Yaisana got the better of Azka Manzoor for above 53 kg event title.
Th Supriya contended with the lone silver medal for the State team as she went down to Sunita Kalwar of Tripura in the -45 kg final bout.
Meanwhile in the Phunaba Anishuba events, State sub-junior boys produced a fine performance to enjoy a clean sweep winning gold (4) in all weight categories.
H Ronel Singh bagged the gold medal in the -21 kg event beating Andhra Pradesh's S Vignesh in the final while M Max claimed the -25 kg title beating Ranjit Medhi of Assam in the final.
H Yangbam added yet another gold medal to the State's tally beating Mohd Nabeel of Jammu and Kashmir in the -29 kg final while N Rajesh Singh downed Deep of Assam to win the -33 kg title.
Altogether 56 male and 36 female thang-ta players (of different age groups) are representing Manipur under the supervision of 6 officials.
