Annual sports meet inaugurated

Senapati, March 11 2015: Deputy Commissioner, Jacintha Lazarus, IAS, inaugurated the annual sports meets 2015 of St Francis De Sales School at Daili village under Kangpokpi sub-division today.

Jacintha lauded the school management and students for promoting sports along with academics during the inaugural event, our correspondent reports.

Attended by village leaders, neighbouring villagers, Church leaders, student community and other dignitaries, the one week long SFS annual sports will witness competition among four houses.

Fr Kurien, Principal, SFS School delivered the welcome address of the inauguration event.

Speaking at the occasion, the 2005 IAS batch Jacintha Lazarus, said only academic excellence cannot mould an individual's personality.

Many schools at present, she said, concentrate only on academic records and bookish achievements neglecting the merits of games and sports that help in moulding a student.

Sports, Jacintha opined, teaches an individual quality of leadership, competitiveness, team spirit, discipline, struggle and the importance of good health.
