Sangai Trophy : VSAI post slender 1-0 win against FC Imphal; IEVFA hold AYVFA

Imphal, April 09 2019: IEVFA, Salanthong salvaged a 1-1 draw AYVFA, Yairipok while VSAI, Thangmeiband secured a narrow 1-0 win against FC Imphal in today's matches of 3rd Sangai Trophy Veteran Football Championship 2019 being organised by United Veteran Football Association at Mapal Kangjeibung.

The Group C league match of the day saw, AYVFA enjoyed a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to Th Brojen's strike in the 21st minute.

The scoreline could have been a different one if AYVFA had converted all their scoring chances but IEVFA which were searching for their purpose had a lucky escape.

IEVFA however produced a fine return in the second half of this match played under pouring rain and had the equaliser in the 46th minute off a penalty kick taken by W Dhananjoy.

Although, both teams had fair share of the chances, the scoreline remained unchanged till the final whistle.

Elsewhere in the Group D league match, VSAI and FC Imphal were evenly poised throughout but a goal by N Uttam in the second half earned the former team all full points.

The two sides, which are studded with former State players, had a cautious start to the game and settled the first half in a goalless draw.

VSAI however had the upper hand in the 39th minute of the second half when N Uttam fired past FC Imphal keeper after connecting to a parallel pass from his mate Ch Anand to break the deadlock and held on to their lead till the full time.

VSA, Sora will meet Sangai FC, Thangmeiband in the next match on April 13 at 2 pm in a Group D league match while CVFA, Chajing will face MUSA, Chekon in a Group A league match latter at 3.30 pm .
