2nd Governor's Cup Boxing Championship begins

Imphal, November 06 2024: The 2nd Governor's Cup Boxing Championship began today at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena under the aegis of the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association.

The opening day of the championship saw Salam Chajers of MBA reaching 54-kg junior boys' quarterfinal by defeating ALMYA's Hijam Surjalal.

Laishangbam Shenebas of SAI-STC also booked his quarterfinal ticket in the 52 kg boys competition defeating Md Alam of MSBA in a pre-quarterfinal bout.

Three pre-quarterfinal matches of the school boys' 55 kg category competition were also completed today.

In the matches, W Ronald of SAI-STC defeated NSA-A's Nelson in the first match of the said weight category as Karung Albertson Kom of MKBA-A defeated L Nonglenkhomba of STC, Utlou and Bogimayum Mustaque of SRBA-B defeated Poirei Chabungbam.

In the two school boys' 46 kg pre-quarterfinal matches, Surtajit Phanjoubam of NSA-B defeated UYDC's A Badal; Usham Thouna Luwang of NSA-A beat Oinam Rajesh of STC, Utlou, Meanwhile in a 49 kg pre-quarterfinal match for school boys, PBA's Gurumayum Jekshon defeated SAI-STC's Th Punshiba.

In the 52 kg pre-quarterfinal bouts for school boys staged today, NBA's W Khumanlakpa defeated STC, Utlou's Ph Umarjit as Thangjam Jerison Meitei of NSA-A defeated E Tompoknganba of PKBA, MKBA-B's Leihaorungbam Tomthinnganba defeated SRBA-A's Sh Loyangamba, Thongam Jackson of PBA defeated MBA's RK Athoisana and Maibam Thouba of SAI-STC defeated L Yuhenba of SRBA-B .
