Athoiba, Lanchenba strike gold at Sub-Jr and Jr Aquatic Nationals

Manipur's Koijam Athoiba and Laitonjam Lanchenba won swimming gold medals in the 40th Sub-Junior and 50th Junior National Aquatic Championships 2024 hosted by Odisha under the Aegis of Swimming Federation of India.
Koijam Athoiba topped the 200 m freestyle competition for Group III boys to win the gold medal today.
He took 2 minutes and 14.66 seconds to finish ahead of Madhya Pradesh's Krishiv Doshi (2:18.43) and Rajasthan's Prateek Kurriya (2:20.43) who finished second and third.

Meanwhile, Laitonjam Lanchenba made the State proud by clinching the 100 m butterfly gold in the Group II boys competition.
He clocked 59.60 seconds to emerge on top as Akshaj Thakuria of Karnataka finished second with a time of 59.67 seconds in a very close contest.
Telangana's Tejas Kumar swam 59.78 seconds to settle for the bronze medal in this event.
The championships will conclude on August 11 .
