Imphal all set to host 27th North East Games

Imphal is all set to host the 27th North East Games which will kick off on April 8 and continue till April 11, said K Ashok Kumar, Director, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister today.
Addressing a press meet at the conference hall of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports at Khuman Lampak, Imphal, Ashok Kumar said that the 27th Edition of the North East Games would be held mainly at Khuman Lampak.
Players and officials from seven North Eastern States � Assam, Nagalanf, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim � would be competiting in the five days event in 10 different disciplines.
More than 2000 players and officials will compete in Athletic, Boxing, Judo, Weightlifting, Football, Badminton, Wushu, Table Tennis, Hockey and Taekwondo.
Athletic events would be held at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium and Boxing would be held at Khuman Lampak Boxing Stadium, he informed.
Judo and Badminton would be held at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak, Weightlifting at SAI SAG, Table Tennis at Indoor Hall of National Sports Academy, Hockey at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium and Taekwondo at the newly constructed Indoor Stadium of National Sports Academy, Khuman Lampak.
Football matches would be played at ESU Ground, Wangkhei, YOSC Ground, Khurai, Khuman Lampak Practice Ground, Khuman Lampak Main Stadium and Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak, he said.
In the history of the Games which began in the year 1986-87, Manipur had so far won the Overall Team Champion's title 21 times and emerged Overall Runner Up's title four times.
Manipur missed the Games in the year 1998-99 when the state host the 5th National Games, he asserted.
With a firm determination to retain the Overall Champion's title, state players have been practising under abled and skilled coaches.
GA Sanatomba has been appointed Chef-de-Mission for state teamAshok Kumar said.
Meanwhile, oficials and players of other states would arrived Imphal starting from tomorrow.
Accomodations for the participating players have been arranged at Sports Hostel and SAI SAG Hostel at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex while officials would be lodged at the different hotels in Imphal area, he informed.
The director appealed to the people of the state to etend their cooperation in organising the Games and refrain from causing any inconveniences and disturbances to the visiting players and officials on their way.
