MMTA pays tribute

The Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) today honoured former President of India, late Pranab Mukherjee during a condolence function held at MMTA Yaipha Sanglen, Minuthong with strict adherence to social distancing norms and safety measures.
The condolence meeting observed to honour, the former President was chaired by the association's president, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, said a statement of MMTA while adding that two-minute silence was observed in memory of the late leader.
The association fondly recalled the former President, who had a distinguished political career and took active part in the development and transformation of India by serving various offices during his tenures in the Government, it said.
While he was the President of India, he flagged off the 1st North East India Top of the World (Mt Everest) Expedition at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 20, 2013, the association recalled.
His generosity and selfless deeds for the Nation will never be forgotten, it said.
The association while sharing the grief of the bereaved family also prayed for his soul to rest peacefully in the heavenly abode.
