Imphal, July 02 2013: With a total haul of 29 gold, 19 silver and seven bronze medals Imphal West district pugilists conti-nued their stranglehold by clinching the overall team championship title for the 13th consecutive time.

The six-day State level boxing Championship competed in sub-junior, junior and senior events in both male and female categories ended today at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena with the champions culling 120 points, 16 ahead of its nearest rivals Imphal East (23G/18S/8B) by 16 points.

While Bishnupur district secured the third position (61 points) with 11 gold, seven silver and 18 bronze medals, Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation, run by London Olympics bronze medallist MC Mary Kom, debuted at the championship on a bright note wresting seven gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals, a feat that placed the debut-ants in fourth place.

Pugilists of Thoubal district (25 pts), National Sports Academy (24), Churachand-pur (11) and MPSC (five) also competed at the championship organised by Manipur Amateur Boxing Association.

K Pravish Sharma - IW (Sub-jr girls), Md Etash Khan - IW (SJB), H Chanchan Devi - IW (JG), W Kishan - IW (JB), S Nengneihat Kom - MRBF (SW) and G Denesh Sharma - IE (SM) were declared best boxers in their respective categories.
