7th 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament MPSC A down KPC to emerge champions

Manipur Police Sports Club-A (MPSC) downed Khurai Polo Club (KPC) to emerge champs of the 7th 57 Mountain Division Polo Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
The first chukker went off goalless with neither team able to find the target and the in the second chukker, KPC shot into the lead when T Roshan scored in 6.21st minute of play.
It was in the third chukker that MPSC came into their own and scored thrice, through S Bimol in the 1.57th minute and 6.40th minue with H Abung Khuman scoring in the 5.19th minute of the match.

The match wrapped up with MPSC winning by three goals to one.
The winners walked away with a cash prize of Rs 40,000 plus a trophy while the runners up had to settle for Rs 30,000 with a trophy.
The tournament started on February 19 with 12 teams participating.
Maj Gen U Suresh Kumar, GOC , Red Shield Division, Maj Gen Virendra Singh, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) and S Buddhachandra, IAS (Retd) of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association graced the occasion, as the chief guest, the guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion Lt Col (Retd) Moirangthem Ranjit Singh, vice president of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association complimented the Army for sponsoring the event and extending whole hearted support in promoting traditional Manipuri sports and culture.
Chief Guest Maj Gen U Suresh Kumar complimented all the participants for their splendid performance in the tournament and said that he was glad that Red Shield Division was lending a helping hand to young polo players in whom he sees a lot of potential.
He assured the people of Manipur of the continued support from the Army for promotion of traditional sports in the future.
He also said that the tournament would have helped in discovering new talent amongst the youth and above all taught "us the values of courage, team work and dignity in victory or defeat" .
The closing ceremony which was witnessed by a large number of army personnel and locals of the State included a entertaining display of Ghatka and of traditional Maharashtrian Lezim Dance by the troops from the army and also splendid performance of Araambai and Sagol Kangjei organised by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association.
