National Level North East Games begins

The National Level North East Games, organised by Department of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) scheme, began today at Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak.
The opening ceremony of the games was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, PHED Labour & Employment Minister and Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) president I Hemochandra, Consultant to Government of Manipur Dr RK Nimai Singh (IAS retd) as chief guest, presi dent and guest of honour respectively.
Giving the welcome speech Gaikhangam thanked all the North Eastern States including Sikkim for participating in the mega event.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India for taking up the RGKA scheme for developing sports in the North East States.
Speaking at the function, Gaikhangam said "This is the sixth time that Manipur is hosting the National Level North East Games and out of 28 times the State has participated in 27 occasions and secured the first position 23 times and bagged the second position four times" .
Football : In the women's football group, Nagaland blanked Mizoram by a margin of 2 goals to nil.
Neichutso struck home the winning goals of Nagaland in the 48th and 52nd minute.
In another match, Tripura edged past Arunachal Pradesh by a margin of 2 goals to one.
In the third match, Manipur humiliated Sikkim by a margin of 14 goals to nil.
The winning goals of Manipur came from M Mandakini (12th, 19th, 54th), Ng Bala (6th, 56th), E Bindyarani (32nd, 57th), Ksh Margaret (46th, 57th), S Rinaroy Devi (5th, 23rd), Pabitra Roy (4th), I Prameshwor (36th) and S Pramodini (42nd).In the men's group, Meghalaya defeated Sikkim by a lone goal.
Ebormi scored the lone winning goal in the 68th minute.
In another match, a late goal from Alando in the 79th minute helped Nagaland hold Tripura 1-1 .
In the third match, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh played out a 1-1 draw.
Arunachal took a 1-0 lead after I Gobenso opened the goal account in the 42nd minute.
However an own goal from Purad in the 74th minute made the final scoreline 1-1 .
