KHFA emerge overall team champions at 15th Governor's Fencing C'ship

Imphal, July 31 2019: Khongman Fencing Academy (KHFA) earned 65 points (8 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals) to win the overall team title at the 15th Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship which was organised by Manipur Fencing Association.

Imphal West with 55 points from finished runners up.

The valedictory function of the tournament attended by Y Khemchand, Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly; Th Joykumar Singh, president, Manipur Fencing Association; Sunil Elangbam, secretary Manipur Olympic Association and L Ibomcha Singh, National Boxing coach as dignitaries who also gave away the prizes to the winners and other participants.

KHFA were feted with the Wahengbam Birbhadra Singh Memorial Trophy dedicated to mini girls champions as the team secured 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

KHFA also on the junior girls title and Wakambam Ongbi Keisham Anou Devi Memorial trophy after emerging on top with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.

Cadet boys' team title and Oinam Yaima Singh Memorial Trophy went to UPAA which bagged 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals while SAIRC fetched the Sub-Junior Boys' and Girl's title and Soraisham Ronika Devi Memorial Trophy with a total of 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

SAIRC also won the Cadet girls' team title and Wakambam Sanajaoba Memorial trophy for securing 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals at the championship.

IW's senior boys' team which clinched 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals emerge team champions and were also feted with Aribam Nandakeshwar Sharma Memorial trophy.

MPSC senior women's team on the other hand received the senior women's title and Hijam Ongbi RK Sanatombi Memorial Trophy.

Men's overall team title and Thangjam Gopal Singh Memorial Trophy went to Imphal West which pocketed 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 borne medals while KHFA bagged the women's overall team title and Thangjam Ongbi Mani Devi Memorial Trophy.

Last Day event The last day of the tournament saw W Sonia earn a gold medal for SAIRC in the cadet foil final beating her compatriot L Nirmala.

K Nancy on the other hand bagged a gold medal for IW with a win over KHFA's Chandrika in the epee final.

UPAA's S Chingkheinganba bagged the gold for cadet boys' sabre event while UPAA's W Satish bagged the silver medal.
