Imphal, December 24, 2013:
The Kuki National Organisation (KNO) has welcomed Songte who left NSCN-IM to join ethnic brothers in the KNO.
According to a press release issued by KNO information and publicity under secretary Stephen Kuki, Songte was a member of parliament in the NSCN-IM's set up.
Songte's return to his Kuki people was preceded by affirmation of Komrem identity as Kuki by the Samulamlan TD Block Sub-Division Demand Committee.
A customary ceremony held at B Vengnom, Churachandpur put to rest all ambivalence regarding their (Komrem) sense of belonging.
The committee was led by Onler Kom, husband of pugilist Mary Kom who won a bronze medal in the 54 Kg category of women's boxing in London Olympics 2012. The United Komrem Revolutionary Army (UKRA) which reportedly represents the Komrem people is a member of the KNO.
UKRA comprises former members of NSCN-IM, UNLF, KYKL and PLA, it said.
