Imphal, May 24 2012:
The 48-hour general strike called by the PMS Affected Guardians' Committee was peaceful on the first day today.
Even as some educational institutions remained closed for the day, no untoward incident relating to the strike was reported.
Meanwhile, police personnel were stationed at strategic locations to pre-empt any strike related violence in the State capital.
The PMS Affected Guardians' Committee imposed the general strike against the alleged negligence and delay in disbursement of scholarship for SC students for the academic year 2010-11 .
The strike began at 6 pm of yesterday and will end on May 25 .
